Although athletes nowadays, are more likely to be involved in defamation litigation than in disputes about their sport, this is not the result of a decline in the latter.  The number of rules and regulations governing professional athletes in all sports dramatically increased in the late 20th Century.  Rules will vary depending upon the sport concerned, the age of the participant and so on, so much so that it is unusual to find an expert in "Sport law", this being too general a topic.  The main UK sporting institutions have therefore been included so that users may seek more information on the rules of each sport from those who claim to know such things.
